The Voice of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) People and Communities in Cumbria
Awaz (Urdu: آواز, literal English translation: "voice")
Our vision is to help create strong and vibrant BME communities, fully engaged in the decisions which affect their growth and development.
Our shared vision with the people of Cumbria is to build pride in Cumbria to make Cumbria a place where:

Everyone who wants to live, learn, work, visit and conduct business is welcome;

People respect and celebrate their ethnic and cultural diversity and maintain their heritage;

Black and Minority Ethnic communities and local people are fully engaged in the decision making processes which affect their future.
AWAZ Cumbria is an independent voluntary organisation registered as a Community Interest Company (CIC) which aims to:

Provide a "voice” for BME people and Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) groups/organisations to influence strategy, policy and public service delivery in Cumbria;

Provide specialist information, advice, guidance and infrastructure development support for BME Voluntary and Community groups/organisations;

Facilitate and empower BME people to engage in decision making at local, neighbourhood, district and county level;

Work in partnership with various VCS and Public Sector organisations in their efforts to promote diversity and reduce racial inequalities, making Cumbria a place where everyone has an equal chance to live, learn, work, visit or conduct business without fear of discrimination, prejudice, racial harassment or violence;

Deliver a professional service for all sectors of Cumbrian society.
